Random pictures of life on the Big Island.

Many days, around noon, a few paragliders come over the ridge above us (towards the mountain - "mauka"), riding the thermals that rise along the ridgeline.

The Big Island is an excellent place for paragliders - they can launch easily far up the slopes of Mauna Loa.

Several outfits on the island offer "dual harness" rides for those without the necessary flight training and certificates, but we haven't seem one down here (yet)

There is a landing zone located further down slope (towards the water - "makai") from our house, which is where the paragliders end their flights.

Heading into Holualoa for the Coffee and Art Walk, part of the annual Kona Coffee Festival. Coffee farms offer their brews for tasting while you browse in the many art galleries in the village.
